For my next Indian dish I need Okra or Ladies finger and I have no idea where to get this, does anyone have any suggestions or ideas for substitutes?

I think I have found a solution thanks to a wonderful facebook friend, I can buy Okra in a tin at the local Woolworth's store, not idea as I love working with fresh ingredients but hey I will take what I can get. Also I found out it has a zucchini-like flavor so if I get too desperate I will just switch it for that instead.
I have also read that you can subsitute with eggplant. I would suggest the thin variety. Which is known as either Lebanese or Japanese Eggplant.
Saphire, I've seen okra at Harris Farm and at larger fruit & vegetable markets. If you know of a good one they may be able to bring some in for you! :) Best of luck! :)
Sadly the big fruit and veggie market in Kempsey actually burnt down recently ....and has not reopened so I would have to travel to find it and the nearest place I can think to get it would be Coffs Harbor as they have a large Indian community (the yummiest curries). But Coffs is like 2.5 hours (one way) away so not some place I go just to buy Okra....so I think at this stage unless I get really lucky I will be getting Okra in a tin.
